The End of Times - Armageddon - In Islam - Part II

Returning to Armageddon in Islam we saw in our last lesson that the Dajjal comes and is battled by Jesus. There is an army that is Gog and Maggog, and we saw that these armies come from Jews and polytheists. Today let's look a bit more at the details of this battle.

In The Book of Fierce Battles - The Gathering of all the Nations against Islam, Hadith #4297 states:

Narrated Thauban:  "The Prophet peace be upon him said:  'The nations shall gather and team up against you (i.e., Muslims) as the predators gather and team up against their preys.  A questioner asked: 'Is it because of us being low in numbers at that day?'  The Prophet replied: 'No, you that day shall be in great numbers, but you will be as powerless as the foam of the water on the surface of the river, and Allah shall remove any fear from your enemies toward you, and He shall put in your hearts a corruption.'   A questioner asked: 'O Apostle of Allah, what is the corruption?'  The Prophet replied: ' The love of life's amusements and the fear of death. '  “

In our last lesson we saw that pilgrimages to Mecca had ended because of fear that Muslims had developed for the dictator in Saudi Arabia. In the Quran Mohammed relays how angry he is about this fear that people would have for a man, and how he was disgusted by them. He tells them that if they would just realize that Allah is with them they would face no challenges. In the Quran 8:53 we read:

"Because God will never change the grace which He hath bestowed on a people until they change what is in their (own) souls: and verily God is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).  

Mohammed prophesized that a time would come when the nations of Islam would be weak, the weakest of all nations in fact, and that this weakness would be the cause of their failure to be governed by Islamic Laws. It is this reason that many Islamic nations push for Islamic governments. We in the west do not understand this, but they truly believe that if they are ruled by governmental systems, such as democracy or socialism, they will be weak and destroyed. To Mohammed, to follow such systems of government were viewed by him as cowardly, and unless they rose up against these systems Allah would never help them.

Again we are very short sighted about this here in the West, because we think they are just being obstinate. But they truly believe that they are a disgrace to Allah and will be humiliated unless they live by the true laws of Islam. He even tells how they will be gathered up by the enemy nations “as the predators gather and team up against their preys.” Wouldn't most Christians be afraid if God told us to follow His laws or we would be like prey to all the other nations?

Hadith #4297, in The Book of Fierce Battles - The Gathering of all Nations against Islam, Book 37 says:

Narrated Thauban:  "The Prophet peace be upon him said:  'The nations shall gather and team up against you (i.e., Muslims) as the predators gather and team up against their preys.  A questioner asked: 'Is it because of us being low in numbers at that day?'  The Prophet replied: 'No, you that day shall be in great numbers, but you will be as powerless as the foam of the water on the surface of the river, and Allah shall remove any fear from your enemies toward you, and He shall put in your hearts a corruption.'   A questioner asked: 'O Apostle of Allah, what is the corruption?'  The Prophet replied: ' The love of life's amusements and the fear of death. ' “

In essence, this is saying that as long as Muslims are cowards and fear to rise up against those governments and systems that are corrupt and have corrupted Islam Allah will never let them regain their independence or wealth; that they have earned the wrath of Allah and deserve to live in subservience to the infidels. They have not changed their souls to believe and trust in Allah.

But eventually some will rise up and overcome the obstacles and corruption of these governments. Jihad, Book 14, Number 2478 says:

Narrated Imran ibn Husayn:  "The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: A section of my community will continue to fight for the right and overcome their opponents till the last of them fights with the Antichrist“

Then again in Jihad Book 14, Number 2529 we see:

Narrated Abdullah ibn Hawalah al-Azdi:  "The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) sent us on foot to get spoil, but we returned without getting any. When he saw the signs of distress on our faces, he stood up on our faces and said: O Allah, do not put them under my care, for I would be too weak to care for them; do not put them in care of themselves, for they would be incapable of that, and do not put them in the care of men, for they would choose the best things for themselves. He then placed his hand on my head and said: Ibn Hawalah, when you see the caliphate has settled in the holy land (i.e., Palestine), earthquakes, sorrows and serious matters will have drawn near and on that day the Last Hour will be nearer to mankind than this hand of mine is to your head. “

It is at this point that the war will be raging and the forces of evil will be defeated. At first they swarm against the nations of Islam as Quran 21:96-97 tells us:

"Until the Gog and Magog (people) Are let through (their barrier), And they swiftly swarm From every hill.   Then will the True Promise Draw nigh (of fulfilment): Then behold! the eyes Of the Unbelievers will Fixedly stare in horror: 'Ah! Woe to us! we were indeed Heedless of this; nay; we Truly did wrong!' “

All the nations come against Islam from every direction but then they realize that they have been foolish and have earned the wrath of Allah for being unbelievers. In the Meaning of the Quran, pg 816 it reads:

"...The name (i.e., Gog and Magog) stands for wild and lawless tribes who will break their barriers and swarm through the earth.  This will be one of the prognostications of the approaching Judgement."

We then see that there are a series of natural disasters that come about. We are told that the ground will cave in (earthquakes), and fog or smoke will cover the skies for forty days. There will then be a plague of some sort where mainly unbelievers are effected It is at this point that the angel Israfil will blow a trumpet and the resurrection of the dead will begin. Then we are told the "Imam...will create a world state...He will teach you simple living and high thinking. With such a start he will establish an empire of Allah in this world. He will be the final demonstration and proof of Allah's merciful wish to acquaint man with the right ways of life. And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way. (Quran, Az-Zukhuruf, 43:61)"
